Chelsea qualified for next season’s Champions League on the last day of the Premier League last Sunday. On the last Premier League day last season, they qualified for this season’s Conference League and have been favourites to lift the trophy ever since.
However, Betis, who have already qualified for next season’s Europa League, will most likely be their sternest opposition so far and will be no pushover.
They have met twice in competition previously, Chelsea winning 5 -2 on aggregate in the now defunct Cup Winners’ Cup in 1998 and again 4 -1 on aggregate in the Champions League in 2005 after trailing 0 – 1 from the away first leg.
This will be close, it may even need extra time and penalties, but Chelsea have that little extra quality overall and should edge it.
